Did you see the glorious jewellery Her Grace wore at her wedding? I did, and was wondering who had created it. That must be a very special and artistic person, who had made such awesome creations, which underlined the beauty of Her Grace with such elegance. In my search for the creator I came to Antiquity Texas. While I was orientating where to go to find his shop, I was accosted by someone who seemed to be a kind of a demon. Calling out for help I was rescued from this creature by Jacon Cortes, the owner of the land AND the creator, I had searched for. Suddenly he was there right in front of me. A true gentleman, I must say. With kind authority he patiently tried to get into a dialog with the demon, which kept changing its form and persistently tried to play pranks on him. I think you would rarely find a person as kind and patient as Jacon Cortes. I know I would have lost my temper, but he kept calm and polite all the way through. That demon was given more chances than anybody could have ever asked for, but it never took the hand that Jacon Cortes reached out to it, and it ended up being banned from the land. I noticed that Jacon Cortes even complimented the demon for its creativity. I cannot but admire a man, who even in this situation could find something good about this rude creature. As a compensation for the inconvenience I had suffered from this incidence, Jacon Cortes gave me a valuable gift. I was amazed. Not only this man is extremely talented, kind and patient, he is also very generous and caring, and on top of it all I dare say, that he has a great deal of courage too.
When I arrived for the interview, Lord Jacon had company by his brother, General Tocho Cortes and Lady Spirit Starsider. He asked us all into his beautiful mansion where we were seated in the tastefully decorated living room and invited to tea, coffee or drinks as we pleased. Perhaps I would have expected that a man in his position had had some servants in his house. I did not see any though, and Lord Jacon managed perfectly the role of an experienced host, who cared for his guests. He is obviously a man with excellent social skills who likes to have people around him.
Jacon Cortes: Ask away
Philosofia Clary: Thank ye, M'Lord
When did your interest in creating jewellery begin, M’Lord?
Jacon Cortes: Well......I wanted to go to a formal affair, but I did not have the money to buy
the cape I wanted. I had just started SL. We had an art gallery with old paintings. The first cape I made, I embellished with gold and a few crude gems. From there I liked the gold and gem mix.
Philosofia Clary: So ye could say the interest sprang out of need, M'Lord? :-)
Jacon Cortes: Yes it did. My brother and I, when we first started, we gave ourselves about
6 months to open a business… and see if it would pay for itself, but we met
Pixapao… our other partner. We have not yet seen it pay for itself, but we
have steadily been moving forward.
Philosofia Clary: This creating can be rather addictive; wouldn't ye say so, M'Lord? :-)
Jacon Cortes: Yes...when I first started..I was a bar rat...it was clubs..parties..ect. When I started building, it enveloped me in a way.
Philosofia Clary: Would ye say, ye found a potential in yourself, M'Lord? :-)
Jacon Cortes: Humm… yes..
Philosofia Clary: From where do you get your inspiration for your work? Are there any master jewellers, you would say that you have been inspired of especially?
Jacon Cortes: humm….I like stuff that can be seen from a distance. I like details. It has to
blend. I’m very particular. If I would not buy it.. it wont get sold.
Philosofia Clary: Some of your jewellery seems to have historical accuracy.
Jacon Cortes: Yes… I love history… It shows us where we have been and teaches us how to move forward. I pick this type of jewellery because it is always in style. The whole time period… screams… elegance.. and decorum.
Philosofia Clary: So history is a great source of inspiration to ye, M'Lord? :-)
Jacon Cortes: Yes....our sims are based on history. Its our foundation here. We honour the past.
Philosofia Clary: You made the jewellery which Her Grace wore at her wedding. Is there any
history connected to this jewellery?
Jacon Cortes: Well....when I was asked..to create it..I was very honoured. We have been in Antiquity for a while now. I met Her Grace and asked what more or less they wanted… Roses was the theme.. all around that. I went with a scroll design,
something she would feel good wearing, and also… I wanted something, Antiquity, as a whole, could be proud of. These are the crown jewels of Antiquity. They represent our community. It takes many pieces to make one. I tried to inter twine the stems with the roses and the pieces, so they were a part of the base. I wanted to encompass all… from the lowly thorn.. to the majestic rose. Its what makes the community. We are all one.
Philosofia Clary: I am curious to know where you create your jewellery, M’Lord. Do you have a workshop?
Jacon Cortes: Actually..I'm terrible at that. I tend to create anywhere. I do have a formal workshop, but if I’m in the mansion yard, I will make a mess. I’m
a very messy builder (laughs).
Philosofia Clary: So ye are not limited to time or space, M'Lord? :-)
Philosofia Clary: Do ye ever use sculpted prims, M'Lord?
Jacon Cortes: Yes… The cameo, you are wearing, was before I started using them. That is all normal prims. The state chain, I have on my chest, is sculpty. If you look at Tocho (the general has put a crown on his head to show me). He has a version of His Grace’s crown. This is open.. scroll.
Philosofia Clary: Which tool do ye use for sculpting, M'Lord? :-)
Jacon Cortes: I don’t make my own sculpties yet. I just use what I find, although that is next on my list… to learn sculpties.
Philosofia Clary: I have heard that ye are very kind and service minded when ye meet costumers in your shop. Do ye have any special aims as a merchant, M’Lord?
Jacon Cortes: Yes.. I like to make sure the customer is satisfied… they are happy… feel
comfortable. If they do, they will come back. And I want to be out with... mixing… to meet my customers… give a personal touch.
Philosofia Clary: I guess ye find some inspiration for your work in that too, M'Lord? :-)
Jacon Cortes: I love people… and I am an optimist.. by some fault. I only see the glass as
always half full. When people are happy… When they bye a piece that makes them feel good to wear… I’ve done good.
Philosofia Clary: Ye do not seem to be scared of conflicts though, M'Lord :-)
Jacon Cortes: No.. I am an honest guy. I am very open with all. I will say though, I am a fierce protector of those, who don’t have. Its hard all around. It should not be hard here too. Everyone should be treated fairly… that above all should be what we strive for here.
Philosofia Clary: Unfortunately fairness is not the same to everyone :-)
Jacon Cortes: True.. and you can never make everyone happy, but… we cannot live trying to accommodate a few. We need to look towards the common ground between the many.
Philosofia Clary: What will be the next we see from your hand, M’Lord? Can I ask that, or is it a secret?
Jacon Cortes: Would you like to see?
Philosofia Clary: ooooooooooo... yes please :-)
Lord Jacon invites me outside to the mansion yard, where he rezzes a black background and a lot of meticulously handcrafted medals.
Jacon Cortes: This is a gift from Antiquity Texas to the RL University of Texas at
It is very late for Lord Jacon and he has answered all the questions, I had prepared. The interview is over. We wish fair winds for each other and I leave Antiquity Texas, knowing I will be back to explore more of this amazing land.
